The Messaging, Malware, and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) has named Janet Jones as its newest Expert Advisor. This highly respected group of experts is chosen for their skills and industry proficiency. They support the day-to-day work of our initiatives, provide guidance to our committees and supply fresh ideas and perspectives during M3AAWG meetings

As a pioneer of our organization, Janet brings a critical blend of historical knowledge, technical expertise, and strategic foresight into her new Expert Advisor role.

“I firmly believe that having the historical insight of a pioneer in this organization puts me in a unique position to help drive M3AAWG forward from a strategic standpoint,” Janet said.

Before her election as M3AAWG’s first female chairperson, she directed many initiatives within her leadership roles in our organization. In addition to her duties as an Expert Advisor, Janet will continue to serve as Co-Chair of M3AAWG’s Data & Identity Protection and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committees.

“Janet’s work has left an indelible mark on our organization. In charting our path forward, she will continue championing a diverse and inclusive culture for the entire organization and ensure a future where online abuse is not only minimized but proactively managed,” said Sara Roper, Chairperson of the M3AAWG Board of Directors.

As an Expert Advisor, Janet aims to continue the success she has helped spearhead since joining M3AAWG in 2014. This includes:

  • Shifting the organization towards a more proactive approach in combating abuse by helping to establish initial priorities, focus areas, and incorporating readiness priorities.
  • Championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Building even closer links between our connected partners like JPAAWG and the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT).
  • Leveraging the regulatory relationships and expertise she has built through her industry experience and weaving it back into the work of M3AAWG.
  • Continuing the mentorships that have made M3AAWG such an effective organization to date while also mentoring future expert advisors.
  • Encouraging all M3AAWG members, industry groups, and global partners to transcend traditional silos and embrace a more integrated approach toward fighting online abuse.

"Janet's proven ability to connect the dots across various aspects of online security will be essential as the complex landscape of online threats continues to evolve. She is a unique professional who brings a blend of technical expertise and strategic savvy that will be critical for the future," said Amy Cadagin, M3AAWG Executive Director.
