The Messaging, Malware, Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) has named Alberto Pastor Nieto as the new Chairperson of its Mobile Subcommittee. This subcommittee is an important fixture of M3AAWG’s Technical Committee and focuses on mobile technology and messaging security concerns.

Alberto is an industry veteran and anti-spam expert currently serving as Product Lead for Google, where he is tasked with ensuring that its vast global user base of more than a billion remains secure while using its products, such as Google Messages, Jibe RCS (Rich Communication Services) and RBM (RCS Business Messaging). He has broad experience for combating abuse in highly private environments secured with end-to-end encryption, a rapidly growing segment of the overall mobile landscape.

“This is an honor that comes with great responsibility, and I look forward to embracing it full steam ahead. I have been active alongside many of our members to enhance the safety of the ever-expanding mobile ecosystem, and I feel privileged to continue rolling up my sleeves with my dedicated team of M3AAWG colleagues to help lead this next chapter for Mobile-Tech," said Alberto.

The Mobile Subcommittee addresses issues such as the management of unwanted and illegal text messages. They engage with regulatory bodies, like the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), bringing mobile industry expertise to the forefront in handling constantly evolving security challenges and threats.

Their work is a key element of M3AAWG’s non-lobbying public policy efforts and helps influence policies while promoting best practices to ensure effective communication standards in the mobile messaging marketplace.

“Mobile technologies are ubiquitous in our society, and with that explosion of growth comes an increasing importance of security. Tapping an industry veteran and leader like Alberto Pastor Nieto as a new Mobile Subcommittee Chair ensures our future is in the most secure place possible,” said Sara Roper, Chairperson of the M3AAWG Board of Directors.
